What is a "gutta"?
A gutta is a small, rounded or pointed decoration typically found beneath the grooves of a column or along the edges of a decorative band in architecture. These features are often used in classical styles, adding visual interest and texture to the structure. Guttae are usually made from stone or plaster and are arranged in a regular pattern, enhancing the elegance of the design. While primarily decorative, guttae can also serve to draw the eye and emphasize the height and proportions of columns, contributing to the overall beauty of the building.
