What is a "scrambler"?

A scrambler is a device used to alter the signal of a phone call or communication, making it difficult for unauthorized individuals to listen to the conversation. This is typically done by changing the frequencies or encoding the message in a way that only the intended recipient, who has the corresponding decryption device or key, can understand. Scramblers are used in secure communication systems to ensure privacy, such as in military, government, or private business settings. They were once more common in phone lines, but digital encryption has largely replaced their use.
