What is "somatic sensory system"?

The somatic sensory system, in its singular form, refers to the complex network of sensory nerves and receptors responsible for detecting and relaying information about our external environment to the brain. It encompasses the senses of touch, temperature, pain, and proprioception (awareness of body position and movement).
