What is "sebaceous gland"?

Sebaceous gland is a small gland located in the skin that is responsible for producing and secreting sebum, an oily substance. Sebum helps to lubricate and waterproof the skin, keeping it moisturized and protecting it from drying out. These glands are most abundant in areas with high concentrations of hair follicles, such as the face, scalp, and upper back. While sebum is essential for maintaining healthy skin, overproduction or blockage of the sebaceous glands can lead to conditions like acne.
