What is a "null-subject language"?

A null-subject language is a type of language where it is grammatically acceptable to omit the subject in a sentence when the subject can be understood from the verb or context. For example, in Spanish, Italian, and Persian, a sentence like "I am going" can simply be "Am going," since the verb form already makes it clear who the subject is.
