What is a "slowworm"?

A slowworm is a legless reptile that resembles a snake but is actually a type of lizard. Found in Europe and parts of Asia, it has a long, cylindrical body covered in smooth scales and a blunt head. Unlike snakes, slowworms have eyelids and ear openings. They are often brown or gray in color, with some individuals displaying patterns or stripes. Despite their name, slowworms are not actually worms and are capable of moving quite swiftly. They primarily feed on invertebrates such as slugs, worms, and insects. Slowworms are harmless to humans and are known for their gentle and non-aggressive nature.
