Sissified is an adjective that appeared in early–mid 20th-century English to describe someone behaving in an overly timid, deferential, or conventionally "feminine" way, often implying weakness or submissiveness. It comes from "sissy," a longstanding slang term for an effeminate or weak boy, with the suffix -fied turning it into a descriptive state. Historically, it was derogatory, used to shame or belittle men or boys who did not conform to traditional masculine norms. Today it is still offensive, and its use usually carries a mocking or critical tone.
