Rohypnol is a strong medication mainly prescribed for the short-term treatment of severe insomnia. However, it is not approved for medical use in many countries because it is occasionally misused to make an individual unable to resist sexual advances which can lead to sexual assault. Rohypnol works by enhancing the effects of a neurotransmitter in the brain called gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), which has a calming effect on the central nervous system.
