a sculpture technique in which a wax model is coated in a mold material, heated to melt out the wax, and then molten metal is poured into the empty mold to form the final sculpture
What is "lost-wax casting"?
Lost-wax casting is a technique used to create metal objects by first making a mold from a wax model that is then melted away. An artist starts by creating a model of the desired object using wax. This wax model is covered in a heat-resistant material to form a mold. Once the mold hardens, it is heated, causing the wax to melt and drain out, leaving a space in the shape of the original model. Melted metal is then poured into this space to create the final object. This method allows for delicate details and has been used for thousands of years, especially for sculptures and jewelry.
