What is "milk"?
Milk is a white liquid produced by the mammary glands of mammals. The flavor ranges from bland and light in low-fat varieties to richer and slightly nutty in whole or full-fat milk. Milk is mainly composed of water, milk fat and milk proteins, along with carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals. Its primary proteins are casein proteins that help give milk its creamy texture, and whey proteins that provide amino acids. Milk provides calcium and other key nutrients and is an important source of nourishment for young mammals. Due to its versatility and nutritional value, milk has been consumed as a beverage for millennia and remains a staple for many people today.
