What is "shot put"?

Shot put is a track and field event where athletes throw a heavy metal ball, known as the shot, as far as possible. The athlete starts by holding the shot close to their neck, then pushes it forward with a powerful arm movement, while staying inside a small throwing area. The goal is to throw the shot the greatest distance, with the throw measured from the point where the shot lands. The event requires strength, technique, and explosive power, as athletes must generate enough force to propel the shot while maintaining balance and control.
