What is a "sex cell"?

A sex cell, also known as a gamete, is a specialized reproductive cell in the human body involved in sexual reproduction. There are two types of sex cells: sperm cells in males and egg cells (ova) in females. These cells are produced through the process of gametogenesis and contain half the genetic material of an individual. During fertilization, a sperm cell and an egg cell combine, resulting in the formation of a zygote that develops into an embryo.
