What is a "low-carb diet"?
A "low-carb diet" is a dietary approach that restricts the intake of carbohydrates, particularly those found in grains, starchy vegetables, fruits, and sugary foods, such as bread, pasta, rice, and potatoes. Instead, it emphasizes foods that are high in protein and healthy fats. The goal of a low-carb diet is to reduce the body's reliance on carbohydrates for energy and promote weight loss, improve blood sugar control, and support overall health. Common foods included in a low-carb diet are lean proteins, such as chicken, fish, and tofu, non-starchy vegetables, like leafy greens, broccoli, and peppers, nuts and seeds, and healthy fats, such as olive oil, avocado, and fatty fish. While specific carbohydrate intake can vary, most low-carb diets typically limit carb consumption to around 20-50 grams per day.
