Vinegar
What is "vinegar"?
Vinegar is a sour liquid made through the fermentation of sugars into alcohol and then further fermentation of the alcohol into acetic acid. It comes in various types, such as white vinegar, apple cider vinegar, balsamic vinegar, and rice vinegar, each with its own unique flavor profile and uses. Vinegar is commonly used as a condiment, flavoring agent, and preservative in cooking, baking, salad dressings, marinades, pickling, and cleaning solutions. It adds tanginess and brightness to dishes, balances flavors, and can even tenderize meat when used in marinades.
