What is "auricle"?

The auricle refers to the small, muscular pouch-like structure located on the superior surface of each atrium. It is commonly known as the atrial appendage or atrial auricle. The auricles help to increase the capacity of the atria, allowing them to accommodate a larger volume of blood. They play a role in the efficient filling of the ventricles during the cardiac cycle.
