The incus, also known as the anvil, is one of the three small bones in the middle ear called the ossicles. It is located between the malleus (hammer) and the stapes (stirrup). The incus plays a vital role in the transmission of sound vibrations. When the eardrum vibrates in response to sound waves, the malleus transfers these vibrations to the incus, which then passes them on to the stapes.
