What is "coiling"?
Coiling is a traditional pottery technique used to build up the walls of a pot or other ceramic object by stacking and joining long, snake-like rolls of clay, called coils. The potter shapes the coils by hand and then layers them on top of each other, smoothing and blending the seams as they go to create a continuous surface. This method allows for creating a variety of shapes and sizes, from simple bowls to large, intricate vessels. Coiling is one of the oldest methods of pottery making and is still used by artisans around the world.
