What is "knafeh"?
Knafeh, also spelled knafe or kunafa, is a traditional Middle Eastern dessert that is made from a shredded phyllo dough, called kataifi, which is layered with a sweet cheese filling and then baked until golden brown and crispy. Once baked, the pastry is drenched in a sweet syrup made from sugar, water, and sometimes rose water or orange blossom water, which gives it a sweet and fragrant flavor. Knafeh is typically served warm, garnished with chopped pistachios or other nuts, and sometimes topped with a dollop of clotted cream or whipped cream. It is a rich and decadent dessert that is often enjoyed during special occasions or celebrations. Knafeh has many variations, with different fillings and toppings depending on the region and the preferences of the baker, but it is always a crowd-pleasing treat with its delicious combination of crunchy pastry, sweet cheese, and fragrant syrup.
