A cafetière, also known as a French press or press pot, is a simple coffee brewing device consisting of a cylindrical glass or metal container with a plunger and a mesh filter. To use a cafetière, coarsely ground coffee is placed in the container, hot water is added, and the coffee and water are left to steep for a few minutes. After steeping, the plunger with the attached filter is pressed down slowly, trapping the coffee grounds at the bottom of the container and allowing the brewed coffee to be poured out through the spout.
