Stroad
01
a wide road that is designed for both high-speed car traffic and for walking or biking, but does not do either very well
What is a "stroad"?
A stroad is a type of road that combines features of both streets and highways. It is meant to handle high-speed traffic while also accommodating local access, such as driveways and intersections. However, it often fails to do either job well. While it allows vehicles to move quickly, the frequent stops and turns disrupt traffic flow. At the same time, it is not very pedestrian- or cyclist-friendly, lacking the proper infrastructure for walking or biking. As a result, a stroad tends to be inefficient for both cars and people.
Example
The new shopping center was built next to a busy stroad, making it hard for people to walk there safely.
Traffic jams are common on the stroad because it tries to mix fast cars and slow pedestrians.
