a fielding position in cricket on the boundary behind the bowler's arm, toward the leg side

What is "long on"?

In cricket, long on is a fielding position located on the side of the field, behind the batter, near the boundary. The fielder in this position stands a bit further from the batter to prepare for high hits, such as when the batter tries to hit the ball far. The goal of the fielder at long on is to catch the ball if the batter hits it high or to stop the ball if it goes close to the boundary. If the ball crosses the boundary, it results in four runs for the batter.
