What are "hip-huggers"?

Hip-huggers are a type of pants or shorts that sit low on the hips and hug the hips and thighs snugly. They were popularized in the 1960s and 1970s as a symbol of youth rebellion and counterculture fashion, and are often associated with the "hippie" style. Hip-huggers may have a flared or straight leg and are often made from denim or other durable fabrics. They may be embellished with embroidery, patches, or other decorations. Hip-huggers were initially popular with women but later became popular with men as well. They continue to be worn as a fashion item, particularly in vintage or retro-inspired outfits.
