What is "facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy"?
Facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD) is a genetic disorder that affects the muscles of the face, shoulders, and upper arms. It is characterized by progressive weakness and wasting of these muscles, leading to difficulty with tasks such as lifting the arms, smiling, or closing the eyes tightly.
