What is a "Holter monitor"?
A Holter monitor is a portable device used to continuously record the heart's electrical activity, typically over a period of 24 to 48 hours. It is worn by patients to monitor heart rhythms and detect irregularities that may not be seen during a standard electrocardiogram (ECG), which is a test that measures the heart's electrical signals usually performed in a medical office. The device includes small patches attached to the chest, which are connected to a recording device worn on a belt or shoulder strap. The collected data helps doctors diagnose conditions such as arrhythmias, palpitations, and other heart problems.
