What is a "wild ass"?

Wild asses are tough animals that live in dry places like deserts and grasslands in Asia and Africa. They have a fawn-colored coat and eat tough plants like grasses and shrubs. Wild asses live in small groups with a dominant male, several females, and their babies. They are really fast and can run up to 50 miles per hour to get away from predators. Sadly, some types of wild asses are in danger because their homes are being destroyed, people hunt them, and they have to compete with other animals for food.
