What is a "tailback"?
A tailback is a position in American football, typically located behind the quarterback in the backfield. The main job of the tailback is to carry the ball on running plays, attempting to advance it down the field by avoiding tackles from the opposing team. Tailbacks are usually fast and agile, with the ability to make quick decisions and dodge defenders. In addition to running the ball, tailbacks may also catch passes, block for the quarterback, and occasionally throw the ball. They play a key role in both the running and passing game.
