What is "strudel"?

Strudel is a pastry that originated in Austria and is now popular in many parts of Europe and North America. It is made by rolling out thin layers of dough, which are then filled with a sweet or savory filling, such as apple, cherry, cheese, or spinach. The dough is then rolled up and baked until it is crispy and golden brown on the outside and soft and tender on the inside. Strudel is often served as a dessert, but can also be served as a main course or appetizer, depending on the filling.
