What is a "ringlet"?

A ringlet is a charming butterfly species commonly found in grassy habitats throughout Europe and Asia. Its distinctive feature is the series of small rings or "eyespots" on its wings, giving the butterfly its name. The wings of the ringlet butterfly are usually dark brown, with a velvety appearance and subtle patterns.
