What is a "pop fly"?
A pop fly in baseball or softball is a ball that is hit high into the air but not very far. It usually travels straight up or at a sharp angle and is easier for fielders to catch than other types of hits. If a fielder catches the ball before it hits the ground, the batter is out. Pop flies are often caught by the infielders, like the shortstop or second baseman, but can also be caught by outfielders depending on where the ball goes.
