What is a "platform"?

A platform is a type of footwear characterized by a thick sole, typically made of cork, wood, or rubber, that raises the wearer's foot significantly above the ground. The sole may be flat or have a wedge shape, and the heel may be high or low. Platform shoes have been popular throughout history, with examples dating back to ancient Greece and Rome, but they became particularly popular in the 1970s as part of the disco and glam rock movements. They have since made comebacks in various forms over the years, and are often worn for their stylish and bold appearance. Platform shoes can be worn by both men and women and may be styled with a variety of outfits, from casual to formal.
