What is a "minbar"?

A minbar is a raised platform or stand found in a mosque from which the imam, or prayer leader, delivers sermons and addresses the group of worshippers. It is usually situated near the mihrab, which indicates the direction of Mecca. The minbar often has several steps leading up to it and is typically made of wood or stone, featuring decorative carvings or inscriptions. During Friday prayers and special occasions, the imam stands on the minbar to provide guidance and teachings to the worshippers, making it an important element in the worship and community life of a mosque.
