What is a "spirit level"?

A spirit level is a tool used to check if a surface is perfectly horizontal or vertical. It consists of a straight bar with one or more liquid-filled vials containing air bubbles. When the bubble is centered in the vial, the surface is level or plumb. Spirit levels are commonly used in construction, carpentry, and other projects that require precise alignment.
