What is a "raised bed"?

A raised bed is a garden bed that is built above the ground, usually with sides made of wood, stone, or other materials to contain the soil. The bed is filled with enriched soil, allowing plants to grow in a controlled environment. Raised beds improve drainage, prevent the soil from becoming too packed, and make it easier to plant, tend, and harvest crops without bending down.
