What is the "grapevine"?

The grapevine is a dance step commonly used in various dance styles, including line dancing and country dancing. It involves a sequence of steps where the dancer moves sideways in a pattern that resembles the shape of a vine or a zigzag. To perform the grapevine, the dancer steps to the side with one foot, crosses the other foot behind the first, steps to the side again with the first foot, and then brings the second foot next to the first. This creates a smooth, flowing movement that allows the dancer to travel sideways while maintaining rhythm and coordination.
