Liver salts, made of magnesium sulfate, are used to relieve occasional constipation. It works by drawing water into the intestines, softening stool, and promoting bowel movements. They are also used in some cases to treat magnesium deficiency or as a soaking aid for sore muscles. Liver salts are available in powder form and  are typically dissolved in water before consumption.
