A winger is a player in soccer, hockey, or other team sports who plays near the sides of the field or rink. This player’s role is to help attack by making runs along the wing, creating opportunities to pass the ball or take shots at the goal. Wingers are usually fast and skilled at crossing the ball to teammates in better positions to score. They also help defend by blocking opposing players on the sides of the field.
