What are "vocal cords"?

Vocal cords, also known as vocal folds, are paired mucous membrane folds located within the larynx that play a crucial role in producing sound during speech and singing. When air passes through the vocal cords, they vibrate, producing various pitches and tones that allow us to communicate and express ourselves verbally.
