Pinto is a horse coat color pattern characterized by large patches of white and another color, which can be any of several base colors. The most common colors for the patches are black and brown, although they can also be chestnut, palomino, or gray. Pinto patterns can be categorized into two types: tobiano and overo. Tobiano pinto horses have white patches that usually cross the back of the horse, while overo pinto horses have white patches that tend to originate from the horse's belly and spread towards the back. Pinto horses have highly sought after for their unique coat color and are often used for western riding disciplines such as trail riding, barrel racing, and team penning.
