Slipped disc
01
diskbråck
a painful condition resulting from one of the discs in one's spine moving out of its proper position
What is a "slipped disc"?
A slipped disc, also known as a herniated or ruptured disc, occurs when one of the soft, gel-like cushions, called discs, between the bones in the spine pushes out through a tear in the outer layer. This can irritate nearby nerves and cause pain, numbness, or weakness in an arm or leg. Common causes include aging, which leads to disc wear and tear, as well as improper lifting, twisting motions, or trauma. Symptoms can vary depending on the location and seriousness of the issue. Treatment often involves rest, physical therapy, pain medications, and sometimes surgery if other treatments fail to provide relief.
