What is "serology"?
Serology is the study of the immune response and blood serum, which is the clear, yellowish fluid that remains after blood has clotted and the blood cells have been removed. Serologists, which are specialists in this field, examine blood samples to detect the presence of antibodies produced by the immune system in response to infection or vaccination. This method of diagnosing people is commonly used to identify infectious diseases, determine immunity levels, and monitor treatment effectiveness. Serology plays a crucial role in medical diagnosis, epidemiological studies, and vaccine development, helping in the understanding and management of various infectious diseases.
