Follow-on
01
дополнительный ингресс, дополнительный бросок
a situation that happens when a team is made to bat again immediately after their first innings because they scored significantly fewer runs than the opposing team in their first innings
What is a "follow-on"?
A follow-on in cricket is a rule that applies in longer formats of the game, such as Test matches. If one team is significantly behind in runs after their first innings, the team that is leading can choose to make the trailing team bat again immediately, without having to bowl again. This is called enforcing the follow-on. The decision to enforce the follow-on is made by the team that is ahead, and it is generally done when the difference in runs between the two teams is large enough to put pressure on the trailing team. It is an attempt to finish the match more quickly.
Example
The captain enforced the follow-on after their team gained a substantial lead.
He was disappointed after his team was forced to follow-on in the match.
The bowlers struggled to take wickets after the follow-on was enforced.
