What is a "grease ant"?

A grease ant, also known as the thief ant or the grease-loving ant, is a small ant species that is attracted to greasy or oily substances. These ants are typically light brown or yellowish in color and measure about 1 to 3 millimeters in length. They are known for their fondness for fats, oils, meats, and other protein-rich food sources. Grease ants are opportunistic feeders and can be found foraging in kitchens, pantries, and areas where food is stored or prepared. They are named "grease ants" due to their affinity for greasy substances, which they will readily collect and bring back to their nests.
