The epstein-barr virus (EBV) is a common virus in the herpesvirus family. It is mainly known for causing infectious mononucleosis, often referred to as mono. EBV is spread through saliva and close contact with infected individuals. Most people are infected with EBV at some point in their lives, often during childhood or adolescence, and may not experience any symptoms or only mild ones. However, EBV can cause symptoms such as fever, sore throat, swollen glands, fatigue, and enlarged spleen or liver in some individuals.
