The objective is to pocket the 9 ball by hitting the balls in numerical order, starting with the 1 ball. Players take turns trying to hit the lowest numbered ball on the table first. A player must strike the lowest numbered ball, but can pocket any ball as long as the shot is legal. The game ends when the 9 ball is pocketed legally, and the player who does so wins the game.
