What is "blooming onion"?
A blooming onion is a popular appetizer that consists of a whole onion that has been cut in such a way as to resemble a flower, battered, and deep-fried until crispy and golden brown. The dish is believed to have originated in the United States in the early 1990s and gained popularity in the chain restaurant Outback Steakhouse.
