Who is a "gynecologist"?
A gynecologist is a medical doctor who specializes in women's reproductive health, focusing on the female reproductive system and related conditions. Gynecologists provide a range of services, including routine exams such as Pap smears and pelvic exams, diagnosing and treating conditions like menstrual disorders, infertility, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and pelvic pain. They also offer birth control counseling, family planning services, and care during pregnancy and childbirth. Additionally, they may perform surgical procedures such as hysterectomies, which involve the removal of the uterus, or tubal ligations, where the fallopian tubes are blocked or sealed to prevent pregnancy, when necessary.
