What is a "quad"?

A quad is a shorthand term used in poker to refer to "four of a kind," which is a hand consisting of four cards of the same rank and one unrelated card. For example, a hand with four aces and a 7 is a quad. It is a very strong hand, ranked above a full house but below a straight flush in standard poker hand rankings. If two players have quads, the hand with the higher set of four matching cards wins. If both have the same four of a kind, the fifth card, known as the kicker, is used to break the tie.
