What is "global aphasia"?
Global aphasia is a severe form of aphasia that results from extensive damage to the language areas of the brain, including both Broca's and Wernicke's areas. Individuals with global aphasia experience significant difficulties in all aspects of language, affecting both speech production and comprehension. They may struggle to speak, understand spoken or written language, and find it challenging to express their thoughts or follow conversations. Communication may be limited to single words or non-verbal gestures. Global aphasia often occurs after a stroke or traumatic brain injury. Treatment typically includes speech therapy and rehabilitation to help improve language skills and facilitate communication.
