선형 B, 리니어 B
What is "Linear B"?
Linear B is an ancient script that was used by the Mycenaean civilization in Greece from around 1450 to 1200 BCE. This writing system evolved from Linear A and consists of symbols that represent syllables and some ideograms for specific objects or concepts. Linear B is the earliest known form of Greek and was primarily used for administrative and economic record-keeping, appearing on clay tablets, pottery, and other artifacts. The script was deciphered in the 1950s by linguist Michael Ventris, revealing that it documented a variety of information, including inventories, transactions, and lists of goods. The significance of Linear B in linguistics and history lies in its role in understanding early Greek language, culture, and society, as well as its connection to the broader history of writing systems in the ancient world.
