Carpet muncher is a slang term that appeared in mid–20th-century English to describe a lesbian. The term comes from a crude metaphor for performing cunnilingus—"munching" the genital area, humorously or insultingly imagined as a carpet. Literally, it labels a woman based on sexual activity rather than identity. Historically, it was derogatory and vulgar, used to mock or demean lesbians. Today it remains informal, offensive, and sexualized, typically limited to joking, aggressive, or sexualized contexts rather than polite conversation.
